Local Advisory Board

North Beckton Primary School has an active Local Advisory Board (LAB). We act as a critical support to the school, providing strategic governance to ensure that all children receive the best possible education. The LAB meet regularly and follows the scheme of delegation agreed by the Trust Board annually.

What do we do?

The LAB has an important part to play in raising school standards through its three key roles:

  • Monitoring and evaluation the schools safeguarding arrangements
  • Ensuring accountability
  • Monitoring and evaluating school performance

We have responsibility, together with the leadership team, for agreeing the policies for the general running of the school. Our role is crucial:

  • We fulfil statutory duties to ensure that the school is a safe, healthy and an inclusive environment
  • We ensure the school finances are in order by monitoring the school's budget on a regular basis
  • We provide support and challenge to the leadership team of the school on all issues that affect the learning and welfare of our pupils

The LAB is drawn from the staff of the school, the Local Education Authority, parents and the wider community that the school serves.

The Trust will make available for public inspection copies of agendas, minutes and reports for our meetings including the Trust Board and any of the LAB committees.  Please contact the Trust’s Company Secretary at info@ttlt.academy

Bridie Mahon

My name is Bridie Mahon. I am the staff governor. I was excited to join the Governing Body to support the school in its journey in a different way to my current role as SENDCo. I have been at North Beckton since Sept 2018 and a governor since 2021. I started teaching in year 4, when I first joined, and had the assistant SENDCo role. In 2019, I became one of the two SENDCos at North Beckton and feel very lucky to be part of a wonderful team both in school and as part of the Governing Body.

Magdalena Milkowska

Hi, I'm Magdalena Milkowska, and I am proud to serve as a Parent Governor at North Beckton Primary School.

As a mother of two, with one child currently attending the school and another starting soon, I have a personal stake in the success of North Beckton Primary School.
While I have spent my entire career designing and developing education software for schools, I am still new to the role of Parent Governor, and I am learning how to be an effective one. However, my passion for improving education and contributing to the school's success drives me to continuously learn and grow in this role.
During my time as a Parent Governor, I have gained valuable insights into how schools operate and the challenges they face.  My primary goal is to support the school's leadership and parents, ensuring that their voices are heard, and their concerns are addressed during Governor meetings.
As a Parent Governor, I am proud to represent the school's community and to work towards achieving our shared goals.

Vivan Tam

I am a board-appointed governor at North Beckton Primary School. I have been living in London since 2019. I wanted to be a school governor as I understood the sector was in need of committed school governors to help bring different perspectives in ensuring the schools are providing the best education and learning experience to our future generation. I work in a regulatory body where I monitor the effectiveness of regulated entities’ systems of quality management. In doing so I also monitor governance and leadership and risk management arrangements at these entities. I am a Chartered Accountant. I was an external auditor, then an advisory consultant, before I joined the regulatory sector.
