Inclusive Learning

North Beckton is a fully inclusive school committed to ensuring that all children, particularly those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), reach their full potential. Our school ethos, "We All Belong," reflects this commitment to fostering an environment where every child feels valued and supported.

We believe that high-quality teaching is fundamental in enabling all children to achieve their goals. Children with SEND are educated within mainstream classes and benefit from personalised timetables that include tailored interventions to address their individual needs.

Our Aims for Children with SEND:

  • To ensure excellent progress, both in relation to their specific needs and across all areas of learning.
  • To provide an adapted and accessible education that meets their unique requirements.
  • To offer a broad and balanced curriculum, enabling them to develop a wide range of skills and knowledge.
  • To foster independence and positive learning behaviours, equipping them for future success.

At North Beckton, we are dedicated to creating an inclusive learning environment where every child is empowered to thrive.

Our School Offer and SEND Information Report will provide you and your child with information about how North Beckton Primary School supports children who may face challenges in their learning. It's important for you to understand how we assist your child, who is involved in their support, and what steps to take if you have concerns about your child’s education.

Children with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD):

North Beckton's PMLD (Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities) Class is a specialised educational setting designed to support children with profound and multiple learning disabilities. These children often have severe learning difficulties alongside other physical or sensory impairments. The unit provides tailored support to help children reach their full potential in a safe, structured, and nurturing environment.

What does our PMLD setting offer:

  1. Personalised Learning: Teaching is highly individualised to meet the unique needs of each child. This may include one-on-one support, specialised communication methods (e.g: core boards or PECS), and adaptive resources to aid learning.

  2. Multi-Sensory Approach: Lessons are often delivered using a multi-sensory approach, engaging sight, sound, touch, and movement to ensure students can access learning in ways that best suit them.

  3. Focus on Life Skills: In addition to academic learning, there is a focus on developing practical life skills, such as communication, personal care, social interaction, and independence.

  4. Therapeutic Support: The children have access to additional therapies, such as speech and language therapy, physiotherapy, or occupational therapy, to support children's physical and emotional well-being.

  5. Access to Mainstream Classes: We strive to ensure that the children within the PMLD class are integrated with their peers within their year group.

Overall, the goal of our PMLD class is to provide a supportive and enriching environment where children with profound and multiple learning disabilities can thrive and make progress in their education and development.
